Good day! Today I would like to talk about some fantastic guns that many people are familiar with from several films (both classics and more recent ones), as well as what real types of weapons have been converted to suit the needs of cinema. So let’s go!
RoboCop (1987) – Automatic Pistol
The most obvious thing that comes to mind when talking about fantastic small arms in movies is the famous pistol of the robotic police officer guarding order in Detroit from the 1987 film. With its help, the main character of the film destroyed evil bandits on an immeasurable scale, and all thanks to the automatic fire mode, which helped defeat both ordinary blacks with machine guns and stronger opponents.
In addition to, in fact, the canonical RoboCop universe, this pistol appeared in two games in the Far Cry series. In the add-on to the third part of Blood Dragon, the pistol was the main weapon of the hero and was one of the references to old action films. In the fourth part, the gun was already a reference, more likely to Blood Dragon itself, rather than to the film. In this part, the gun could be opened for a couple of dozen Uplay points.

But unlike other automatic pistols, for example, APS and M712, the stock on the M93 is not a holster, but is stored separately.
Elysium: Heaven Not on Earth (2013) – Rebel Assault Rifle
Not the most interesting sci-fi movie weapon, but still worthy of attention. In the film Elysium: Heaven is not on Earth, the main character, after receiving an exoskeleton, kidnaps Carlisle, a big shot from Elysium. This operation uses an old assault rifle with explosive cartridges, which is very effective in destroying government robots (this moment was also shown in one of the trailers).
Despite the rather unique and futuristic design, even if you don’t look too closely, you can easily recognize the good old Kalashnikov Modernized Automatic (AKM) in this weapon. The harsh Russian weapon regularly deals with the henchmen of evil oligarchs from the space station almost a century and a half after its creation, albeit with minor modifications. This machine gun was adopted by the USSR army in 1959, ten years after the AK. Now it has long been withdrawn from service, but is still used by the armies of various poor countries in armed conflicts.
In the film, this machine appears briefly and its role is insignificant, which is a pity. AKM 2154 model looks very impressive and performs very well against enemies. In cinema, this machine gun is glorified by many films about bad Russians, but AKM’s acquaintance with games did not go well. It can only be found in GTA, and in two parts of the Battlefield series – Vietnam (where there was a version with a folding stock) and the upcoming Hardline.
Aliens (1986) – Armat M41A automatic grenade launcher system
One of the most famous fantastic examples of small arms is the M41A pulse assault rifle of the colonial marines from James Cameron’s film Aliens. In the Aliens universe, this weapon is a standard assault rifle-grenade launcher system for a Marine. The ammunition of this beast consists of 99 pulse explosive cartridges and four grenades in the under-barrel module. In the film, this gun worked effectively against aliens due to its hellish rate of fire.
Although this machine gun looks like a real original gun from the future, its roots lie in another famous example of the 20th century. M41A is actually… a well-made-up Thompson M1A1 submachine gun. According to the filmmakers, it was originally planned to convert the German MP-5 submachine gun into a rifle of the future, but it had too little muzzle flash. This is good for real combat, but it had a negative effect on the entertainment value of the film, so it was decided to replace the Hollywood classic with a submachine gun from World War II.
Despite the fact that the M41A is the most iconic weapon in the Alien universe, it only appeared once in the films. He had better luck with games. It can be used in every game about conflicts between people and Aliens.
